So me and two beautiful babes, the charming Ellie of Pretty Much Penniless and the sweetheart Dianne behind Dear Oh Deer (and my giveaway!) are planning to totally make loads of money and try not to spend any TOMORROW Sunday 1st August at Let's Get Ready To Jumble!

Please, come buy dresses and shoes and all manner of vintage bits and bobs off of me and Ellie - for super cheap, no less! - and get yourself some one-off handmade jewelery gorgeousness off of Dianne. Almost all of my vintage and pre-loved dresses, skirts, shoes and jewelery will be under a fiver, I promise!

Ayaka Nishi

Maybe it's my boyfriend talking about the new skull tattoo he's planning, but lately I seem to be (even more than usually) obsessed with bones. I do love a good anatomical reference and I think there's something truly beautiful about bones, whether it's the curve of someone's elegant clavicle or the old bones neatly arranged in the Natural History Museum in Kensington. 

  


So it wasn't really a surprise to me when I fell in love with Ayaka Nishi's beautiful range of jewelry inspired by bones and available at Not Just A Label. The collections simple but striking lines are just lovely, in a sweetly gothic kind of way. (I'll be the first to admit that I'm a bit of a goth, though!)

The cuff is my favourite but, really: my bones would be happy to wear any of these bones on top.

ZIP IT

Lately I've noticed that all my favourite fashion blogs have been going crazy for nail varnish. Obviously, there is a colour or two that we're attracted to each season and of course there are the classics (I'm thinking Chanel's Rouge Noir here!) but this summer everyone seems to be hopping on the nail varnish bandwagon in a big way.

And while I love the leopard print on Clare and Gem and desperately want to steal Ellie's gorgeous Barry M nail varnish in Berry Ice Cream, THIS is the design that is really appealing to me. 

 

These amazing zipper nails were created by Laura Sofia Koski, a Helsinki mega babe who obviously has a great eye for an eye-catching design. I love how tough and edgy these are. I'm definitely not dextorous to give myself leopard print nails, but perhaps with some fake nails, black nail varnish, zippers and superglue I could give it a go myself. It's a shame that Finland is just a bit too far to go for a manicure!

I'm a tights girl. In fact, I'd admit to having a bit of a problem when it comes to tights. I would honestly hate to count how many pairs I have, but it's a big old box and a drawer full.

This is an old picture - sorry guys, but I'm tired and lazy and the tights are scattered everywhere - and I reckon that this is only about a third of the tights I own. If I had to guesstimate it'd be 60? 70? EEK.

Tights can liven up an outfit (BRIGHT! TIGHTS!) or dress it down (especially if your skirt is a little bit short, you strumpet you) and, of course, they keep you warm. Not that I've needed being kept warm lately - only being cooled down. Summer and the hot hot heat = no tights for Amy. And I kind of miss them. There's something comforting about tights, isn't there?

Although, perhaps summer tights ARE an option. The other day on the tube I saw a girl with the MOST PERFECT LEGS. Me and my knee bruises, shaving cuts and general scruffiness tried not to stare and failed miserably. And slowly, slowly... I realised she was wearing tights. Tan tights! They were obviously super-thin but made her legs look amazing.

So I've been hunting for a pair of summer tights and these are the ones I've found:

THOSE AREN'T KNICKERS: THEY'RE PART OF THE TIGHTS. I will admit that at first I looked at the faux panties and was like "Is this awesome or is it wack?" My ridic-o-meter was swaying all over the place and then I thought of all the tights I own with heinously ugly waists and crotches and decided that these were good. 

Do you guys wear tan, nude or skin colour tights? Is this a terrible idea or the best one ever?

Enjoyed these images University of East London graduate Diane Gevorgian's collection that popped into my inbox yesteday. Gorgeous outfits in black and gold and leather and chiffon, with paneling and metal  work, teamed with epaulets, ankle boots and fingerless gloves...

This sheer top is my favourite piece.

Apparantly, this season's collection was inspired and partly created using a bunch of metal roosters bought from a car boot sale. The metal roosters were 'killed' (harsh!) by being chopped into pieces and then reshaped to fit different parts of the body as detailing and decorationson both the garments and the footwear. Inventive, no?

What I'm Wearing & Winners!

Had a lovely weekend with some of my nearest and dearest, especially at my dear friend Mandy's birthday BBQ! We drunk, danced, giggled, gossiped and stuffed our little bellies with delicious things until a ridiculous time at night.

I didn't take any outfit photos as such, but my sweet friend Vicky said I could pinch some off of La Facebook to use here for you. I also wore this combined with a horrible hangover to go see one of my favourite bands, Frightened Rabbit, play for Band Stand Busking on Sunday morning. It was worth it to hear my favourite song live again though. And, like I said on Twitter, the combination of sunshine, indie kids, good music and cute babies (all for FREE) was definitely a winner!

You might remember from my post a couple of days ago that at the TK Maxx opening, I fell in love with a couple of floral maxi dresses. Well, I went back on Friday to try them on and COULDN'T decide between the two prints at all! So I finally caved and ended up getting both with my vouchers.

And, not only are they both completely gorgeous, but they are by a brand called AMY'S. That needed bolding! As someone completely obsessed with a) florals b) maxi dresses and c) anything with my name in, this was like a match made in magical dream dress heaven. Thanks for the presents, TK Maxx!

Katie Eary for Catwalk Genius Launch

Last night I met up with the beautiful Clare from Tweet and sweetheart Anna Madeleine to head down to the Katie Eary for Catwalk Genius launch party. We headed into the building by London Bridge to find an Alice in Wonderland like room full of mossy walls and secret peepholes!

For someone who has long been a fan of Katie Eary's menswear collections, I was really excited at seeing what she came up with for womenswear. The collection used prints from her menswear and were in three simple and wearable jersey pieces: a tunic, leggings and a dress.

(I WANT this dress. No surprises there!)

This launch was special because it's the first EVER fan-funded clothing collection. £5,000 was raised so that Katie (who, by the way, is incredibly gorgeous) could create these limited edition pieces by people buying shares in the clothing. Each supporter who purchased at least one share in the new collection will get 24 hours advance notice to buy from the 'Katie Eary at Catwalk Genius' collection when it is launched later this summer, as well as other supporter benefits. As it's limited edition, it's sure to sell out extremely quickly!

As the room itself was so fantastic, we decided to do a little phootshoot. My friends Clare and Luke both came in leather shorts looking HOT HOT HOT. I love Clare's lace top  and short curly hair and Luke's awesome backpack. (I'm currently trying to peer pressure Luke into starting a blog, because he always ALWAYS looks amazing.) I also snapped picture of Fiona from Save Our Shoes and Isabelle OC's outfits, but the green light meant they didn't come out so well, sadly.

There was also loads of awesome shoe porn! Love Kate from Fabric Of My Life's gorgeous brown brogues from Topshop and Alex from Alex Loves amazing Marni shoes (middle, top row).

I love this clutch: big (bit enough to have a book in it, as well as all my stuff!), bold, bright and ORANGE (aka the best colour ever, pretty much.)  I've already used it a lot since I bought it and am sure that it won't be its last appearance on the blog. Not pictured, but much appreciated was the delicious strawberry cider on offer. Yum yum yum, seriously. Highly recommended!

TK Maxx Flagship Store Launch

Who doesn't love a bargain? Everybody loves a bargain! It's this joy of the cheap and cheerful hunt that had a whole flock of us fashion bloggers head down to the new flagship store opening of the Charing Cross Road branch of TK Maxx - the place for lots of lovely designer bargains!  We drank champagne, ran amok in the shoe department and felt a little bit awkward (at least I did!) watching the dancing 'mannequins'.

These beauties are the fabulous four that I spent most of the night with having lots of giggles with ! Left to right: Fiona from Save Our Shoes, Ellie from Pretty Much Penniless, Laura from This Is Miss Laura and Emily from My Fashion Life.

Ellie love this cardigan with shoulder detail and a skull made of lace on the back and I was more than a little bit in love with this crinkled maxi dress, which was a total steal at £15.

It was lovely to see Kristin aka The Clothes Whisperer (check out the amazzzzing Pucci she bought) and to meet Charlotte from Style Cartel, Lira from The Portmanteau and my new style crush, Emily from Fashion Foie Gras! It was also really nice to see Lily again, who is just the prettiest PR girl in the world, no? She said "As soon as I saw the bow, I knew it was you, Amy!" Haha... I had forgotten I wore a different massive bow to the last TK Maxx event!

TK Maxx were also launching Modbox, their new fashion department which opens on July 25th and will feature a variety of on trend items, from Varsity geek chic to Upper east Side glamour (I've been watching an awful lot of Gossip Girl lately so this really appeals to me right now) alongside Military and grungy Neo-Rocker looks. This shoot is not only making me wish for more leopard print, but also making me wonder what happened to those hideous/wonderful leopard print heels I had when I was fifteen. Did they die? Probably: they were so cheap and tacky. But damn, I wish I had them now!

Crystal Renn VS Photoshop

Look, babes: don't get me wrong. I am ALL about the Myspace angle. You know, with your arm stretched up as high as it'll go and the camera pointing downdowndown to make you instantly drop a few lbs.

 

But this: this photo below isn't just an angle, is it? It's a helluva lot of Photoshop and it's ruined the gorgeous figure of Crystal Renn, the most fabulous of all the fabulous plus-sized models.

The photographer, Nicholas Routzen, defended his images, claiming that Crystal’s waiflike appearance is only a result of the camera’s angle.

The images were “…taken from a higher angle with a wider lens. I shaped her…I did nothing that I wouldn’t do to anyone. I’m paid to make women look beautiful.”

BUT SHE ALREADY IS BEAUTIFUL. Candids from the same shoot below:

And Crystal herself said to Glamour magazine "I don't look like that":

“Well, I was shocked. When I saw the pictures, I think I was silent for a good five minutes, staring with my mouth open. I don’t know what was done to those photos or who did it, but they look retouched to me. And listen, everybody retouches, but don’t make me into something I’m not.” 

I'm glad this is all cleared up now! Crystal, you're LOVELY.

What I wore for my interview

Today I had a very important interview for an internship that not only do I desperately want but that I also happen to think I'd be really rather good at! No interview is ever perfect, is it? You always come away thinking "I wish I'd mentioned that" or "I wish I hadn't said that!" but I think I did well, regardless. Please do cross your fingers for me, everyone. 

(Also: I just got off the phone with my mum. She asked what I wore to the interview and I said I was about to post photos so she could see. She said she's just happy I'm not wearing my white sandals, haha!)
