...create something gob-smackingly beautiful out of it. How about a dress?
That's what Kelly Murray (who goes by the name Jolis Paons on Flickr) did.
Kelly goes to the Herron School of Art & Design and designed and created this dress for her Creative Processes class. She made this paper dress purely out of phonebook paper and pleated, stuck, sewed, and glued everything by hand.
I am massively impressed by the obvious hours of work that have gone into a piece that blurs the boundaries between fashion and art. It's obviously clothing but it's not wearable, leaving it solely for viewing. I love the contradiction in terms - clothing that you can't wear!
And I also think it's gob-smackingly lovely. I do wish it was really wearable!
i think there's something almost fetishistic about that dress. in the sense that if you were to wear it it would severely restrict your movement (for fear of ripping it.) it also looks absolutely exquisite.

R: You're right: the wearer wouldn't be able to move at all, I think. I'd feel too claustrophobic in it, but it really does look beautiful.
