If I Were A Boy*... #1

New feature alert! Well, I'm not promising regularity or anything but I do love having a new idea. I was going to call it "Items Of Bonerific Clothing That I Would Like To See On Hot Boys Immediately Or Sooner, Thank You" but it just didn't feel catchy enough.

So, if I were a boy, I'd already be on some kind of waiting list for this Jeremy Scott for Adidas hoodie/tuxedo thing that comes out in February. Comfort + classic style = awesome visual pun of amazingness.

*New feature idea not affiliated with that rubbish new Beyonce song. Obviously.

Comme des Garçons for H&M

Since the beginning of April, when it was first announced that Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons would be the next designer to create a range for H&M, bloggers all over the world have been getting incredibly over-excited.

After seeing all the pieces online at nitro:licious, I think that this is surely the most perfect high street/designer pairing we've yet to see. I have often - completely unrealistically - longed for some CDG in my wardrobe and this could be my chance to grab a piece.

There have been lots of comments online about this being too pricey for H&M, but the priciest item in the range is this stellar dress-- first image and below left -- at $350 (£170ish - I'm hoping H&M will translate the prices fairly!), which is a complete bargain for a Comme des Garçons piece. 

 

The two pieces I'm most excited about are this gorgeous bag, which also comes in navy blue and navy blue anything is bound to get me over excited.

And speaking of navy blue... I'm also head over heels for this beautifully cut trench. I hope it's as nice on me as it looks here! If I buy anything, it'll probably be this piece. I need a navy coat and hopefully it'll be cheap enough for me not to worry too much over buying it.

 

I really like the menswear too: I also wouldn't mind grabbing one of these polka-dot polo shirts for my boyfriend R, as I think he'd look great in it. 

The pieces go on sale in Tokyo first on November 1st and will hit the rest of the world on November 13th. Only two more weeks to wait now, boys and girls!

Zinaida Rogacheva

Loving this beautiful new model I just came across here on The Fashion Spot forums.

Zinaida Rogacheva is only fifteen, but she already has the most piercing eyes and beautiful heart-shaped face.

The only thing I'm not keen on is all that hair: does anyone else think that after a certain point long hair is just a bit gross? I think Zinaida definitely needs quite a lot of it hacked off!

OAK NYC: Need, need, need

I used to dress massively, incredibly girly but the last year or so my look has definitely been hardening up - and I like it. That's not to say my love for 50s dress, puff sleeves or rose prints is going anywhere anytime soon, but it does mean I've been thinking and looking at clothes I wouldn't have even considered would look good on me as little as eighteen months ago.

One of the online stores that is making me want to dress a lot tougher and rather more minimalistic than I usually do is the gorgeous Oak NYC. I'm completely obsessed with browsing the new arrivals lately. The things are expensive, but beautifully tailored and full of little surprises.

Love this light denim naval dress, $368 (£233) by Henrik Vibskov.

A lot of the items are rather well and truly out of my reach like this stunning Bagabo gown by Eairt, $478 (£303). Still, it's free to look, right?

Oak is also excellently one of those stores that caters just as well to men as is does to woman.

Please get it back in stock Oak! I'm not sure how I'll pay for it yet, but I seriously need it in my life.

Victoria Beckham for Vogue India

Everyone in the English speaking world -- whether they wanted to know, or not -- has seen pictures of Victoria Beckham's new pixie haircut. So what on earth possessed Vogue India to put her in the cover in The Worlds Most Awful Wig?

It seems like they missed a trick to me: if they were going to be edgy enough to put a Western celebrity as the cover star of the bridal issue, why didn't they go the whole way and ditch the traditional long locks for a short messy do?

Also, I can't believe that VB allowed it, to be quite honest. Vicky love, it looks like something slithered around in a vat of grease and then died on your head.

Jeremy Scott For Adidas

 

I recently read on Dazed Digital about the new Originals by Originals line by Adidas, in collaboration with exciting young designers. The first to mess with the traditional logo is Jeremy Scott, who is best known for his full-on kitsch prints of telephones, fast food and outer space, top name just three! I'm completely delighted to see he's bought his usual sense of fun to the sportswear company.

 

Up for grabs will be unisex leopard print (and leopard shaped!) hoodies, two-tone pastel sheen sets and the cutest tuxedo-shirt style tracksuit tops. Brings a whole new meaning to the term smart casual, huh?

But my favourite piece by far is this gorgeous flapper-esque fringe dress. I'm not a wearer of sportswear (well, not since my tomboy phase in my early teens) but I'd love to own this dress. I imagine it with a pair of black shiny American Apparel leggings and a pair of tough black ankle boots - it would be so unbelievably awesome, seriously!

How cool are the sequinned harem pants, too? The collection comes out at the beginning of February next year. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it!

Here are the street style looks that I've been loving this week!

First up is the lovely Camile from Childhood Flames. I couldn't decide which of her two black dresses I liked best this week, so you get two for the price of one!

(I've been dying for a pair of tights like that for ages: I heard H&M were doing them for mega-cheap, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere. May have to spend a bit more and visit American Apparel, sigh.)

Patricia Field for M&S

I never would have called myself a fan of stylist and designer Patricia Field. Sometimes she scored home runs on Sex and The City and The Devil Wears Prada... and sometimes she struck out entirely. Worse, I think the clothing from her own label is questionable at best and disgustingly tacky at worst - sure, I'm all for a bit of leopard print, but gently does it, you know?

However, I'm very impressed by her line of clothing for British retailer Marks and Spencers. It does seem a slightly odd pairing as M&S as always been rather a sensible retailer, but the collaboration makes sense from a sales point of view and I'm glad to see that it works from a design viewpoint, too.

I love these wide band ankle boots, £69.

Also adore this rose print jacquard puffball dress for £99 (but hate it with that belt, urgh.)

A lot of the collection does run a little pricey for the high street, but as M&S are well-known for their quality clothes, I would be prepared to fork out a little more for these outfits.

One item that is cheaper (but just as cute) is this strapless stripe dress, £35. Now this I am really tempted by. I think it could be styled in far more exciting and edgy ways than in this boring photo... Seriously, the belt happy stylist is ruining everything for me!

And of course there had to be a version of Carrie's most famous Sex and The City  Movie outfit, didn't there?

However, this one has now disappeared from the website - snapped up by Carrie wannabes, no doubt. Click over quickly if you want piece of the Patricia action, ladies!

Business in the front, Party on the side

When I first saw this image on Go Fug Yourself I couldn't understand why it was being featured. After all, Heather and Jessica of GFY spend their time mocking and criticising celebrity outfits and I happened to think that this dress worn by Christina Ricci was gorgeous.

I love the classic vintage look, the beautiful steel grey colour and how perfectly it fits her. The embroidery does remind me bit too much of a map to her ovaries, but on the whole I think its rather lovely.

And then:

I'm the first person to get behind a beautiful exposed back on a lady. I think it's sexy without being slutty - well, usually. In this case all I could look at was the sideboob.

And then, whilst idly browsing the net, I stumbled across this rather revealing shot of the usually classy Anne Hathaway.

 

To be quite honest, it makes me feel a little uncomfortable. I'm scared if she moves too quickly all her goods will be on display. 

Now, the sideboob is often featured in shots of tabloid favourites like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears but the difference here is that these two ladies are both wearing beautiful formal gowns on the red carpet and there's STILL sideboob a-plenty going on.

Does two make a trend? I showed these pictures to my boyfriend R and he commented "Ah, the sideboob. It's the new cleavage."

Is it really, readers? Tell me its not true!

Bloglovin' and Facebookin'!

Although pretty recently I gave in and got a RSS feeder called Sage, I kind of wish I'd hung on just a little while longer and waited for Bloglovin', a new website which streams all the posts of the blogs you read into one handy page that you can access from anywhere. This is great because I can read all my (many, many) favourites when I'm not on my laptop, which makes me very happy indeed. I think I read more blogs than is healthy.

So, if you're using it -- and why not? -- you can add Wolf Whistle on the website and make me look popular.

Leggings Forever, I.D.S.T

So, just as I began to feel leggings were finally being phased out after years of their dominance, it suddenly seems like everyone is excited about them again! Is that the sound of cold days and dark nights that is calling us back to their footless comfort, or are they just too easy to wear to ever really let go of?

At Lindsay Lohan's leggings labels latest launch (gosh, that was a lot of alliteration) for her line 6126, named after Marilyn Monroe's birthday, she said:

"I love to wear leggings, so it should come as no surprise that my first venture into the world of fashion design is with leggings!"

No surprises there at all, really - but when it was first announced, I did think it was all a joke because of how often she wears leggings. Easy mistake to make, I guess.

I love Lindsay Lohan madly, deeply and bizarrely for reasons I will never fully be able to explain (least of all to myself) but even I am finding it hard to say anything nice about the leggings. Those ones she's wearing above? Definitely not.

And I'm even less impressed by these awful "Mr President" leggings. Urgh, Monica Lewinsky reference? Gross, gross, gross.

You can buy them here at Shop Intuition for $132 or £80, depending on which side of the pond you're on. But, um. Don't buy them.

However, not even bad taste fellatio jokes can dampen my excitement! Getting me all giddy with jealousy were these crushed velvet lovelies on Almah blog. 

 

Even better though have to be two gorgeous bloggers who've D-I-Yed their own pairs of leggings lately. Rumi of Fashion Toast slit hers to perfection.

While even more impressively, the exceptionally crafty Queen Michelle of Kingdom of Style made her gorgeous multi-toned pair by hand. 

I want basically all of the things she makes though, it has to be said.

And as if all this leggings loving weren't enough, today I had to go and completely fall in love with these beauties by Louise Goldin for Topshop- sadly I can't find them on the Topshop website.

They were £100 which, for leggings, is a little insane. I haven't lost it yet, you know. But they were made from such a beautiful knit. And they were in such gorgeous colours: grey, a soft cyan, lilac and black... delicious. And they would look so amazing with the grey dress I also fell in love with today.

Quick, let's change the subject.

Salvaged from Selvedge

I cannot get over this insane dress, seriously. The amazing Jodie over at Ric-Rac presented her secret selvedge project a couple of days ago. And gosh, was it worth the wait!

For those of you who don't know (and I didn't, until I started reading the blog) selvedge is little maker marks on the very edge of fabric. Jodie is obsessed with them and started a collection with the help of some on and offline friends to assemble a massive collection.

And then she made this gobsmacking dress.
