Bea, Be Mine: Bea Szenfeld

Just spent a very happy half hour admiring all the beautiful work by the talented Polish-born, Sweden based designer Bea Szenfeld.

Bea studied at Cutters Academy in Gothenburg and Beckman’s College of Design in Stockholm and completed internships at Björn Borg and Stella McCartney. She also featured in in the TV show Fashion House, where she spent eight weeks on location in Rome competing with several other European designers - and won! She started her own company in 2002 and industriously creates not only pieces for men and women, but also designs a vintage inspired range, which includes corsets and lingerie.

I love the irreverent styling for these shots, which have definitely been flavoured by more than a pinch inspiration from Surrealist Art: the bowler hat and bird combination in the next picture reminded me instantly of Rene Magritte's The Man in the Bowler Hat.

Although there is much to love in this collection - vintage look dresses, a trompe l'oeil waistcoats on shirtdress and over-sized polka dots berets to name just a few - my favourite piece from this collection is definitely the blue blouse shown below right. The exaggerated lamb of mutton sleeves with the Peter Pan collar and that fantastic Alice In Wonderland colour combination together create a look that's just perfectly cartoonish. I just love that Prussian blue!
