#WishMagazine Launch!

It's time to make a wish, my lovelies!

 

I am going to wish for a perfectly lovely sunny afternoon with my beau, drinking gin cocktails out of jamjars. I would like to hang out with a whole bunch of blogger babelets in tea dresses, floral crowns and battered brogues. I would like to wear my favourite vintage floral dress and feel good! (Ok, ok: my JOINT favourite. I cannot pick just one.)

I'd like there to be an insanely delectable collection of food with a cake to die for made by Yummy in your Tummy and rose meringues that I could eat forever! I'd like to talk about perfumes with Penhaglion's and fall in love with a violet fragrance that reminds me of my beloved mam and a woody, bookish, bourbony scent that I want to wear in all my Katherine Hepburn moods - of which there are many, my friends.

Oh - and I'd like all this to happen in  the cutest room ever, please.

VOILA! My wish was granted at the very lovely launch party for Wish magazine by Carrie (left above) and Lucy (middle). It was decorated just  perfectly and I couldn't help but ooh and ahh over all the flowers and perfect props. In fact, the venue upstairs at the Victoria in Mornington Crescent was so perfect that I'm now day-dreaming about an afternoon birthday party for me there next year. I had a really lovely time at the party, talking to many lovely girls I know and sampling a few too many of the edible delights. I also had my portrait drawn which was delightful!

 

And I'm in Wish, too! I wrote a little piece for the magazine that is s super nostalgia driven about the books I loved as a pre-teen and about how Claudia Kishi from The Babysitters Club was my first real style icon, HOLLER.

Future Fashion at Westfield Stratford

 

It's a little weird to talk about the launch of Spring/Summer 2012 - my head is totally all about AW already - but that doesn't mean that I'm not excited about all the lush summer stuff hitting stores.

To celebrate the proper arrival of summer shopping, Westfield London (Sheperds Bush) and Westfield Stratford City are introducing Future Fashion for SS12. It's the first all-digital style event set to twist the traditional concept of shopping with a bunch of fun stuff. And, most importantly, you can pretend that you are in the FUTURE.

I got to check it out Future Fashion yesterday as well as listening to a really interesting talk by Disney Roller Girl (and talking about Styloko!) and snaffling a free copy of Grazia.

My favourite thing at Future Fashion is the MASSIVE style boards, where you can create your own looks. The boards are 103" (!) touch-screens, which you can whirl and swirl around like you're in Minority Report, only with clothes.

 

There's loads of clothes, accessories and background decorations grouped by this seasons key trends including candy, print and tribal. When you're done, you can add your finished style cubes to Westfields Facebook gallery, send to your own Facebook and Twitter and get a personalised list emailed to you with everything you've chosen with shops and prices. (This is DANGEROUS.)

This was my first go!

I just went for a super mix of massive prints and colours and General Stuff What I Like. My favourite piece, pennies wise, is definitely that bright yellow clutch in the bottom corner. It's from Bershka and is just £9.99. (I love it in hot pink, too!)

I managed to do a super quick second board. This is called CLUB TROPICANA... most unoriginal name of all time. OF ALL TIME. But I was rushed, you guys! Quit judging!

 

Basically, this board is a homage to the sunshine. (Was that only last week? Come back, I miss you.) Although, who needs sunshine in that Topshop yellow dress? And forget the lollies: that  L.K. Bennett blue Crocus bag is actually good enough to lick.

As well as being able to pimp your boards all over social media, each product on screen has its own QR code so you can scan on your smartphone and get discounts! I'm not sure I really love a QR code but I do love a discount.

 

AND you can talk to Grazia girls in the lounge AND have your photo taken in the pink photobooth above (I love that background!) AND do mocktails and manicures at the Beauty Bar AND watch Future Fashion's incredible 3D fashion catwalk film. Pretty neat, huh?

 

It's running between 4th - 9th April at Westfield Stratford City - AKA NOW THIS MOMENT.

Changing My Perceptions

I always say I'm not a clothes snob but... that might actually be a bit of a lie. I don't care WHERE you bought something from - one of my favourite summer outfits is the 50p shorts and matching crop top I bought from a market stall! - but I do actually care occassionally about from WHO you bought it.

And I have to admit: UGG has always been one of those brands. I just hate UGG boots. I am a snob, ok? THERE.

But, in an effort to be less of a bitch (an on-going process), I said yes to an invite from the really nice team at UGG to come and see the new Spring/Summer collection by UGG .The invitation was intriguing - I liked the shoes the girl had on! They were cute!

And, actually, I liked the shoes in store.  And THEY HAD A PHOTOBOOTH. Forget cupcakes: my favourite trend is photobooths at an event because I am ridiculous and this one bleached my skin out so I looked perfect. Me and Sherin from Hi Fashion did one together!

 

 

And I decided to take advantage and do a little photoshoot a la photobooth with my favourite shoes. First up are these mens Kaldwell boat shoes, £130. I liked all three colours. Don't make me chose a favourite because I'm just sitting here going tan? grey? maybe classic white? like an idiot.

 

(I find these hot on a guy, not gonna lie. Like the rich pompous type of hot? THAT.)

 

And for women, there was really no competition.
Aren't these £140 Lucianna sandals the cutest? Actually love this print!

I love shoes number 3 best... or maybe number 4. Tough choice!
Although obviously I look my best/most deranged in #2.

Blonde Ambition

My route to blonde started on a total whim. I decided that I would take it up in stages from red to orange to hideous yellow (URGH) to blonde. I loved being orange but I fancied something new.

It would be my first real time being a blonde. I went blonde once before for about 36 hours. Fancy some vintage Amy? Seriously old school?

VOILA.

I just found that picture on my loooooong defunct MySpace, THAT'S how long ago it was. Maybe... um. 2006? (I still have that dress. My mum does not have the terrible bathroom suite she was stuck with when we moved house.)

As I'd bleached it without toner it looked really yellow and I decided there and then that I didn't suit blonde. I just popped a red over the top and went back to normal. I think that is the only picture that even existed!

Red was my colour until November 2010 when I thought "Why not give it a try, huh?" This is the first picture I took of being blonde after I got there in May 2011, after several home bleaches and a professional one plus toner:

 

A friend said I looked like a ghostly ballerina and I LOVED THAT. Best description term ever?

Now, however, my roots are super hugely bad. Actually, somedays I don't mind. Somedays I'm like OH NO MY ROOTS and somedays I am totally badass and rock it in a big bad dark quiff anyway:

It's funny: I'm writing this sponsored post just as I am debating whether to stay blonde or to do something else altogether. Orange again? Black and turquoise? Ideally I would do my roots and stay blonde or even go lighter but I damaged my hair a lot already. I'm scared to do my roots!

But watching this video makes me want to stay blonde. I'm not sure that blondes DO have more fun but damn, I've enjoyed it!

I've been searching for ten minutes to post this for days and now, here it is! If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you'll have already seen that this month I was featured in Company Magazine in an article about what their old interns are doing now. And I am thrilled about it!

 

 

Happily, the team at Company sent me a few more images which didn't feature in the magazine  so I could share them with you all. The shoot was at Somerset House, home of London Fashion Week - and  just around the corner from my work! For once I felt quite relaxed in front of the camera. The team did an amazing job of make up - like my normal make-up only, um, much more polished - and I loved my messy, beachy hair.

Baby Capricorn

 

HAPPY NEW YEAR, BABES!

I'm convinced it's about a week too late to be saying that but as this is my first post of 2012 I'm hoping you'll let me off! It's been an absolutely hectic first week back at work for me but this week - and year! - started well with my birthday.

I hate being a early-New-Years baby but had an absolutely magical day, thanks to Aaron, the love of my life. I ate cheese omlettes, went ice-skating at the Natural History Museum, saw my favourite bits in the V&A, watched a firework display in my borough (they say it was for the Olympics but on my birthday?  It was definitely for me!) and then had a few drinks with a couple of friends in one of my favourite pubs. Perfect!

 

I wore a whole heap of vintage - one of my favourite vintage dresses,  vintage coat and my vintage floral DMs - and topped it all off with a gorgeous Luna and the Moon crown! The dress and crown definitely need proper showing off soon, I promise.

 

 

And, speaking of birthdays...  I realised this week that THREE of my favourite bloggers - Dina, Jen and Reena - all have their birthdays the same week as me. Four of us in a week! #TeamCapricorn 4 LYFE, yo. (Remember my amazing Wildfox Capricorn tee, too?)

My Christmas Sales Picks

 

So most of the Christmas sales launched today! The sales really ARE starter earlier each year but I don't mind as it meant a fun morning for me laying in bed on my first day off, browsing to my hearts content and maybe even buying myself a little Christmas present. Why not, huh?

Here are my sales picks from some of my favourite websites!

 

 

I admit that I find the Topshop sale overwhelming - SO much good stuff that I almost can't take it! I love the cut of this dress livened up by the bold red leopard print and I love it even more that it's now £30.

And these shoes? SWOON. The more I look at these gorgeous creeper shoes, the more I love them! They're now half price: down to £50 from £100.

 

 

 

 

This Symthson diary is reduced to £31 on My Wardrobe and just happens to be in Pantone's colour for 2012 - a glorious vibrant orange. Obviously I'm happy because orange ALWAYS makes happy!

Like it says on the front: Make it happen. And while you're at it, I love this Anton Heunis cocktail ring, now £30. Gorgeous!

 

Matalan always have a few gems once you get hunting. I like this fur cuffs and collar coat, reduced to £30 - a bargain for a classic look!

And, if you're a lucky shoe size 3 or 8, you should hurry up and snap up these lovely grey knitted cuff boots that are now £12. Seriously. £12!

 

 

This £30 striped dress from Oasis is a perfect way to get Prada S/S 12 look at a tiny price! I'd wear it with black tights and ankle boots now and white tights in the spring.

And I have these leopard print leather and ponyskin gloves in my online bag right now - do I buy? They're just so perfect and only £18!

 

Monki is my big obsession at the minute. Since they've opened a concessions in Selfridges and started shipping to England, I am a happy girl!

All three of these perfect simple classics are less than £13 in the sale - Nico camel skirt, Linda yellow bag and Betty bretton jumper that I've been lusting after for MONTHS. 

Do I buy those Topshop boots at the top or all three of these? I'm also swooning over items in the sales at River Island, BooHoo and Dorothy Perkins so I could be a while!

Matalan Style Project

 

So Matalan awesomely invited me to be a part of their Blogger Style Project for December! How it works is: a) they pick a theme - b) they send you a £50 voucher and then c) you have to get a whole themed outfit for £50. 

 

 My theme was Little Black Dress. Classic and easy, right? Um. Not entirely.

 

I admit: this wasn't easy for me. I am a pain in the bum, it's true but A LITTLE BLACK DRESS IS BORING, YOU GUYS. I like colour! And mixing it up! I don't think I ever wear one shop head to toe. Ever.

I struggled at first to pick a black dress I liked but when I put this sequin number on, I loved it - especially the sleeves.

Then I fell in love with these shoes - just £20!

 

I teamed those baby doll beauts with some sparkly socks to give it a bit more of an Amy edge. And my outfit came to just £46.50 altogether!
